Slow Return signals the beginning of the next chapter for my ambient/experimental project Void State.
The last Void State release Songs for Closed Eyelids explored generative sounds and compositions, this new set of sonic explorations focusses on field recordings and audio manipulation. I’ve always enjoyed sampling but wanted to dive in a little deeper with looped arrangements and heavy use of effects to create a sense of space. Melodies are born from resonance and processed with distortion and reverb then layered with other samples and field recordings until a cohesive sound emerges.
I found with Songs for Closed Eyelids that I needed to work quickly and not over analyse each track. I am using a similar process with this new material which will hopefully mean more frequent releases.
